Our study adds to the Quaternary history of eolian systems and deposits in western Wisconsin, USA, primarily within the lower Chippewa River valley. Thickness and textural patterns of loess deposits in the region indicate transport by west-northwesterly and westerly winds. Loess is thickest and coarsest on the southeastern flanks of large bedrock ridges and uplands, similar in some ways to. Over eighty Quaternary scientists have contributed to the fifty-five chapters divided into four main parts. Part 1 treats the areal geology, with emphasis on the stratigraphy of the glaciated areas east of the Rocky Mountains, unglaciated eastern and central United States, and western United States.
An early interest in landscape and landscape evolution was fostered by family holidays in Wales and Scotland and honed at school (Eastbourne Grammar School ) by A-Level geography and in particular a field trip to Charnwood Forest and a fascination in the contents of 's book . However, little geologic mapping had been done in the valleys (Quaternary deposits) of western Utah. In , Oviatt and Davis began mapping the Quaternary (less than about 2-million-year old) deposits and rocks that cover more than two-thirds of Millard County, and the fault scarps in these deposits.

Western Sørkapp Land has been experiencing dramatic natural changes such as glacial recession, coastline retreat, emergence of new landforms and Quaternary deposits, as well as changes in the water drainage and network due to global warming.
Western Sørkapp Land is a very remote and diverse region, which is representative of the European Arctic. The lake deposits have been dated by interbedded volcanic ashes, lava flows, and various geochronometric methods. This report is one of the first attempts to map in a systematic way the Quaternary deposits and landforms in a large area of the Basin.
The sites described in this book include, amongst others, the Blyde River Canyon, Augrabies Falls, Kruger National Park, Kalahari desert landscapes, the Great Escarpment, Sterkfontein caves and karst system, Table Mountain, Cape winelands, coastal dunes, rocky coasts, Boer War battlefield sites, and Vredefort impact structure.
Western-source tills have not been found east of the bedrock valley of the ancient Mississippi River, and eastern-source tills have not been found in the western part of the state (Myma Killey, personal communication, ).
A partial succession of deposits from the western source is exposed at the Zion Church section (Fig. 3, site 22). Quaternary Science Reviews, Vol. 4, pp. i-iii, Printed in Great Britain. Sutherland, Quaternary Science Reviews, 3, ) Michael A.E. Browne British Geological Survey, Murchison House. An exceptional record of the various ice advances and nonglacial intervals is documented by sediments and landforms of various ages lying on the surface and by glacial, marine, and terrestrial deposits in numerous sections.
The Quaternary deposits and history of the area were initially synthesized by Craig and Fyles (, ), Bird ( The source of the Hudson River was discovered in by the naturalist and surveyor, Verplanck Colvin.
It is a pond on the western slope of Mt. Marcy, the highest peak in the Adirondacks at 1, m. Colvin, an ardent supporter of preserving the mountain forests and watershed, referred to the pond as ‘tear of the clouds’ (Schneider, ).
The book presents an up-to-date, detailed overview of the Quaternary glaciations all over the world, not only with regard to stratigraphy but also with regard to major glacial landforms. MERRITT, Adrian. The fluvial deposits in the boring are capped by the bayline flooding surface, which is in turn overlain by estuarine deposits, the transgressive ravinement surface, and finally, submarine shoal.
This U.S. Geological Survey General Interest Publication was written by Louis L Ray in It provides information on the late Quaternary continental glaciations, including the area covered by the continental glaciers, and examples of some of the evidence and deposits.
The second revised edition of the Encyclopedia of Quaternary Science, provides both students and professionals with an up-to-date reference work on this important and highly varied area of are lots of new articles, and many of the articles that appeared in the first edition have been updated to reflect advances in knowledge sincewhen the original articles were written.
With respect to landforms, recent developments have been facilitated by the advent of improved aerial imagery, especially the NEXTMap data set or digital elevation model (DEM). Much of this guide will cross-reference this new compilation, using it to demonstrate the morphology and distribution of major landforms and Quaternary deposits as well.
This book on Turkish geomorphology offers location descriptions, based on their dynamics and evolution processes, including hydrology, tectonics, volcanism, slopes, coasts, ice/snow, and wind. It presents landforms as a result of evolution (Quaternary, Holocene, historic) and in relation to the elements determining and/or impacting this evolution (vegetation, soil, hydrology, geology, climate.
Abstract. In the NW Himalaya, Late Quaternary sedimentary sequences along with the glacial fed Yamuna River deposits offer an opportunity to understand the feedback mechanism of Glacial-Interglacial cycles to Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) dynamics and resultant fluvial development since MIS-5e (Interglacial).
Quaternary deposits and landforms are exposed widely in the Espanola Basin, where base level has fallen > m since early Pleistocene time and drainages have eroded weak Cenozoic rocks, stranding ancestral piedmont and axial channel deposits beneath terraces that flank the Rio Grande valley.

The importance of glacial deposits is continually increasing, not only for pure scientists, but also for applied geologists.
In many parts of Europe, as well as North America, these deposits provide major sand and gravel reserves, groundwater reservoirs and the foundation on which houses, roads and bridges are built.
